Which Computer Processor is Better for You

| July 7, 2011

After You choose a motherboard, if you want to make DIY Personal Computer (PC) then you must determine which computer processor will be used as your computer brain. How to choose a computer processor of course would include the processor type to be selected, whether Intel or AMD processor. It’s depending on your motherboard too. If you have an AMD motherboard, you must pick an AMD computer processor, so if for Intel motherboard.

Clock speed listed on AMD CPUs and Intel is a measure of how good and fast a processor. But the actual ability of a processor is not merely come from the large clock speed that is owned, but the model number of the processor’s will take effect for its capabilities too. Intel uses digit number and name of processors, while AMD uses digit number for designation on each its product.

Intel processor determines the number of its product refers to the architecture, cache, clock speed, FSB and other Intel technologies. They are creating processors with high clock that is by multiplying the pipeline and SSE (Streaming SIMD Extensions) on the processor. So with these technologies can receive many instructions to the processor at one time. This led us to open multiple applications simultaneously with a fairly high speed.

AMD determine its model number refer to the standard benchmarks from AMD itself, which can provide accurate results. AMD assumes that the processor is working with a smaller clock would be more efficient than using a larger clock. So they create computer processor by increasing the number of MIPS (Million Instruction per Second) and 3DNow! It will make the running process of an application will be faster.

But basically the speed in an application running process also influenced by the OS settings, the CPU usage of each application and so on.

Then the tips is if you’re going to buy a new computer processor or want to upgrade your processor is figured out what kind of motherboard that you have. Is it support Intel or AMD processors? You have to know the specification details about the motherboard. Keep in mind also that clock speed is not a standard benchmark in determining the processor you are going to use. Note also the cores, cache and FSB on the processor. The great combination of them will affect to the performance of a processor that you use. Of course the greater the value of those three things will make the price of computer processor is more expensive too.

I have stuck with AMD processors for a number of years now. And find they are much more affordable option to Intel.

  13. Ron Artwood says:

I think AMD is indeed the cheaper alternative for processors than Intel. But it will be suitable for engines meant for temporary use, not for-all-time use. If the budget allows you, it will be better using Intel’s.

  32. I’ve always used AMD processors too. Cheaper and speed almost as good, its a no brainer.

  33. Very informative and well written! Personally, Im a AMD man because Im biased and believe they deliver better speeds for cheaper, however it is common knowledge that AMD processors operate at a higher temperature than Intel, which in turn can decrease life expetancy.

    • Andy C says:

I’d like to use AMD processor because it’s cheaper than intel too. In addition of it, i use more cooler stuff in my casing. It’s great for gaming performance.
