How to Make USB installer Using YUMI, Step by Step Guidance

| September 18, 2011

USB installer is very helpful when we want to install the OS on a computer that does not have an optical disc or in a netbook. I will make the step by step installation guide using Yumi, so you can easily do so.

As we know, we can use two kinds of software to make USB installer. For Windows systems, we can use Yumi and we can use multysistem for linux. The comparison of Yumi and multysistem to make USB installer can you see in my other post.

Steps to make USB installer using Yumi as follows:

1. Download Yumi USB installer, here. Yumi is a portable app, so you do not need to install it.
2. Click the exe file, so the image will appear below. Select I agree button.

xp usb installer

3. Yumi interface has 3 steps:
a. First option displays show all drives? (USE Caution). When this option is selected it will display all USB devices that connect to computers. Make sure you choose the right device or the flashdisc. I chose the drive F:

usb install

b. Beside it was an option to Format drive F: / (erase content). This will reformat the drive. For the first process, you should choose this option, you will reformat the flashdisc so it can clean the digital junks that may interfere at a later day.

c. This step will select the OS (windows, linux, anti virus and also the CD recovery ISO). Drag the scroll bar up or down.  I will install Kubuntu 11.04 this time to make a USB installer (I’ve download it first). Use browse to find the ISO file Kubuntu 11.04. If all is done, then press the create button.

4. Yumi will give a confirmation screen about the input that we enter in the steps above. Yumi also informed that you should close the windows explorer in order to drive F: can be formatted with the FAT32 file system. FAT32 is a format that supports a lot of ISO files, so you should choose this file system.

5. Yumi will reformat the flashdisc and make (Master Boot Record) MBR on the flashdisc, so it can be a bootable flash. When all was correct, then press the yes button, so Yumi can begin to create the installation files on the flashdisc.

Click next.

6. You can add another ISO file if you want to add more ISO files in to the flashdisc. If not then you can press NO, it means the process of making the USB installer has completed.

You can add another ISO file later.

7. Done. You can use your flashdisc as USB installer.

Those are the steps on how to create a USB installer using Yumi. I Hope it can help you.

I did it on windows 7. It works for me. I never tried on xp. I think you should format the flash on yumi itself, so it can run smoothly.
