How to Choose PC RAM for your DIY Computer
Beside hard disk drive, processor and motherboard, then select the PC RAM also includes important if you want to make a DIY PC or want to upgrade it.
PC RAM is an acronym for Random Access Memory that is also known as volatile memory, because the data it holds is lost when the desktop PC or notebook using it is switched off. Briefly, PC RAM is used by the system to store data in the form of files for processing by a computer’s central processing unit (CPU), also known as the processor.Unlike most other hardware components, PC RAM does not require a software device driver to be installed in order to function. All you have to do is install it and Windows, or any other operating system, can use it if it is compatible with the motherboard that it is installed in. (wikipedia)
The amount of PC RAM used in modern desktop and laptop computers is expressed in megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB). A gigabyte (1GB) is 1024MB.
By using a new technologies and components to the DDR-RAM can make your PC run faster until it reaches the speed you’ve never imagined before. Actually, it is not always the case. For example, the greatness of DDR2 can only be felt if the PC you’re using Intel processors. DDR2-533 is always considered to be more super than DDR 400.But actually DDR2-533 is designed to run at 133 MHz clock will lose its faster if compare with DDR 400 is designed to run at 200 MHz clock.
The processing instruction per clock cycle at DDR2-533 RAM be a half times slower than DDR-400 RAM. The low processing instruction time at DDR2-533 means they will run slower to access the data we need.
DDR2-533 RAM will work optimally when you are using AMD processors with a FSB of 533 MHz, because if we use processors with FSB value more or less, there will be a bottleneck in the process of instruction later. Similarly, the current DDR3 is not much different from just using DDR1 or DDR2 as mentioned above.
The advantages of the latest DDR RAM is located at less power usage than the previous DDR RAM. The using of the latest series of DDR RAM will be cooler than the old series of DDR RAM.
Another thing also affect is the PC RAM chipset. The brand and how much is used on the PC RAM will affect RAM performance.
So I suggest, when you want to buy the PC RAM, first identify your motherboard and processor specifications you use first. Make no mistake using this type of DDR on the motherboard, also adjust the FSB processors with the FSB RAM that will be used, if it does not match, the performance of your computer will be slow down.

Thanks for this, newbies and seasoned PC and Mac users can benefit from this information. The RAM is one of the most important parts of the PC. Good stuff! http://www.adelaideinternetmarketing.com.au
This is great – I love reading your articles because they’re easy to understand. I haven’t started making my own DIY computer yet, but I know where to come when I do because all of these are so helpful!

This will be a great help to me and to those people wants to buy PC RAM. This article is very informative. You should first identify and know your motherboard and processor before buying RAM.
Thanks sharing best tips for choose bet ram for my pc. it is very ueful info for me.
This is really a good heads up for those who are techie about their computers. Thanks a lot for sharing!
RAM is an essential part to any good computer and these are some really great tips to making your computer even better. Thanks for the information.
Wonderful post. I learned a lot from it. I intended to buy a computer, but now when I know how to assemble one myself, I can buy parts. Thanks.
This is the first time I am visiting your blog and happy to read this post. I found this post is really useful one.. I love reading this kind of stuff. Your blog is one of a kind, i love the way you organize the topics.
Choosing your RAM wisely is definitely a very important thing to consider when you are making your own pc
thank you this has cleared a lot up for me.
This is very useful information about PC RAM. Thank you for sharing.
Good post! You may also want to mention that there are many online tools available to help identify your RAM, such as crucial.com.
I wish I had your post a long long time ago.
The first time I bought parts to get them assembled, I never quite realized the difference between DDR, DDR2, etc. The second time, I bought a DDR2 and tried to get my reluctant motherboard couple it with DDR. The third time I got everything right, but then I had to replace my entire motherboard…*sigh*
I remember when I bought a motherboard about five or six years ago I got everything in place but didnt realise that there was difference between ddr and ddr-2 which my motherboard didnt support.
nice article thanks!
Nice information. Anyway, is it necessary to use 16GB of RAM for a home computer? Because I just bought them for mine..
@Blogging Tips And Tricks
If you use your home PC to graphics processing and video rendering, 16 GB RAM is very great for that purposes.
helpful post to choose best ram at the time of buying . your experience will help us .thanks
Maybe this is my noobishness speaking, but won’t even a higher RAM fail to be fully appreciated if you have a lower quality video card?
Dude you are talking about old RAM, DDR3 @ 2000+MHz is the current market
I have been looking into getting another laptop but I never really understood that connection between RAM and processors. Thank you.
“PC RAM is one of the most important parts for a PC, if it is wrong in choosing a RAM, it will result in the performance of a PC to be not optimal.”
+1! Totally agree with the above, it is very important!
My new motherboard supports up to 16Gb RAM. Now I know what memory to choose. But will operating system support such value of memory?
Choosing your RAM wisely is definitely a very important thing to consider when you are making your own pc. Even when you just buy a complete set, the specs of the pc should be looked upon properly.
Great article, I used to work as a pc tech and one thing end users need is helping finding the right memory.
Timings are also very important. So much so that a lower clock speed rated memory may well outperform a high one if the timings are much quicker. Look out these and get real world benchmarks where possible!
@advantec computing
Yes, timing latency arrangement will make greater performance, but it used by overclocker, it is not for beginner. Thanks for your comment anyway, and i hope you can share more here.

This tips on how to choose the PC RAM is very useful and easy to understand, you explained it in great detail. Good work..
Yeah..this article is very useful for whom want to upgrade their pc..using the right ram for your processor is will increase your pc perform.
This is an excellent post especially for beginners who will be looking to get started with a computer. The information is also useful for persons who will be upgrading they systems.
Terimakasih atas artikel anda… Bermanfaat sekali untuk saya.. Salam kenal
Thank you so much for this valuable article. It is very interesting. I will follow this tips.
Well, this is an very interesting post. This post was very well written .I appreciated your distinguished way of writing the post. It was Very refreshing post with attractive ideas. I am looking forward to read your next great article .keep continue your post ..thanks for sharing.
This post was great. If someone want to buy or upgrade their PC RAM they should read this first. Your PC will not affected if you buy the higher clock of RAM. The processor will automatically underclock your RAM. If you’re plan to upgrade your processor for the future, it is better to buy the higher clock RAM. Just don’t buy DDR3 RAM for your DDR2 compatible processor.
thank you good article admin, great post

Because it’s true =)
Oh, thanks for sharing about the blogging contest, seems really cool and I think I may join it.
Thanks =)
Hey Andy,
Great info on pc memory.
You know more about computer memory than I do =)
Have you built many computers?
@xekeno
I just built it for some friends of mine. It’s not so many, perhaps about 50 or 60 PCs.
Anyway, thanks for your attention.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
@honda jazz review
thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it.
Thank you great post
This is a very informative post. When I bought my PC, I didn’t know this information. The only thing I know about PC Ram is that you should use the same frequency if you’re planning to use multiple modules. I didn’t know that specific memory modules function better if paired with a specific processor. Thanks for the information.
