Beep BIOS Codes in Computer

| August 1, 2011

What happens with my computer and what is beep BIOS codes? It’s very annoying, when you’re in desperate need of your computer to update blog post or another job that must be done soon. It was suddenly just a beep beep are heard. No any booting image on the monitor screen. It’s only an audible beep, even though you have pressed the reset button repeatedly.

Actually, these beep beep it is a sign given by the computer’s BIOS because of the failure of post test of existing hardware in the computer. For common, it is certainly very confusing at all. They will bring his computer into the nearest technical support. Of course you have to pay some money for them. If you know about this beep BIOS code, you can handle it easily.

BIOS is a short term for Basic Input/Output System. The first thing to do at start-up, the BIOS will identify, test, and initialize of installed hardware on the PC such as graphic card, CD/DVD ROMs, hard disks, memory (RAM) and other hardwares on the computer.

When the computer is turned on, the computer will play a single beep BIOS sounds (on some computers with other type of BIOS, it can beeps twice) and continue with normal processes, but if there is a problem in computer hardware, the BIOS will sound a beep as an error code, the number of beep and long or short beep BIOS is an error code of the installed hardware on the computer.

Beep Bios Code on the AMI and AWARD

The most commonly used BIOS are AMI, AWARD, IBM and PHOENIX BIOS. Error code in the BIOS is characterized by long or short beep or sound combinations.
Beep BIOS code is different for each type of BIOS. I’ll give the beep BIOS codes for AMI and Award BIOS because both are the most widely used.

Award BIOS

Beeps Error Message Description
1long, 2 short Video adapter error Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly.  Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.
Repeating (endless loop) Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.
1long, 3short No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card.
High frequency beeeps while running Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.
Repeating High/Low CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.

What do you need to do when you hear an error beep BIOS codes in your computer:

• Do not press the reset button on your computer repeatedly, because it can damage your hard disk drive.
• Unplug the electrical connections on the back panel, and open your computer casing.
• Check the inside of the casing, is there a fan that is not functioning properly? This can cause the PC to be overheating, so there are some parts of the peripherals that are not functioning properly.
• Check the card hardware (RAM, graphics card, sound card, Ethernet card, modem card) one by one by pulling the existing hardware on the motherboard. Once the hardware is removed, try cleaning the connector pins and reinstall one by one and if your computer works normally, it could be there is a problem in hardware connector pins only.
• If you had just installed new hardware card, try to remove it first and try to replug in your old hardware. If the computer can run normally, it means your new hardware is not compatible with your computer.
• If after doing all the methods and the error still persists, there may be one of your peripherals are damaged (motherboard, RAM, graphics card), so you have to replace with a new one.

I hope these tips can help you to handle a problem that occurs due to beep BIOS codes in your computer.
